Skype will be discontinued in May 2025. According to a post on Skype's official X page, users will be able to switch to Microsoft Teams Free using their Skype account to continue staying connected. The transition will be free, and those who used paid Skype features will be able to use them until the end of their next renewal period. After May 5, 2025, the dial pad will only be available through the Skype web portal and Teams for remaining paid users.

The news of Skype's closure was first revealed in a beta version code spotted by a user on the XDA Developers portal. Skype, founded in 2003, was acquired by Microsoft in 2011. In 2016, Microsoft launched Teams, which gained popularity during the pandemic and became integrated into Windows 11.
